Our Core Wagering team builds and runs the backend systems that power betting markets at scale, processing huge volumes of live data and transactions every second. As a Senior Software Engineer – Core Wagering, you’ll play a key role in keeping Australia’s most recognisable wagering products running smoothly, while helping evolve a complex, high‑traffic ecosystem that never sleeps. Your role in action

Reporting to a Technical Team Lead, you’ll be a senior individual contributor within the Core Wagering engineering team. You’ll design, build, and support critical backend services that underpin fixed odds and tote betting products, working closely with traders, product partners, and fellow engineers.

• Design and build high‑traffic backend wagering systems that operate around the clock
• Optimise performance, resilience, and availability across core betting platforms
• Integrate and process live third‑party sports data feeds and messaging streams
• Support pricing models and market creation for fixed odds and pooled betting
• Champion good engineering decisions, code quality, and operational excellence
• Mentor engineers and contribute strong technical leadership without people management

What you'll need to succeed

You’re a senior backend engineer who thrives in complex environments. You enjoy solving hard problems, working close to the business, and building systems where speed, accuracy, and reliability truly count.

• Significant experience building Java‑based backend systems for high‑volume platforms
• Proven capability working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), DevOps practices, and container orchestration
• Strong experience with messaging and publish–subscribe technologies such as Kafka, Redis, or RabbitMQ
• Experience supporting legacy frameworks, including Play Framework, while modernising safely
• Solid mathematical thinking with an understanding of odds, pricing, and wagering concepts
• Passion for sport, wagering products, or trading environments is highly valued
